Best Place On Earth


The Cafeteria, the best place in the school, is full of friendly faces and gourmet food. Before you even enter the Cafeteria the experience starts. Food droppings lead the way, making it impossible to get lost, and provide a sneak peak of what's on the menu for the day. The menu has many fantastic choices like nachos made with vegan cheese and lab grown beef, specially picked out by the one and only Michelle Obama, who, if you weren't aware, replaced all the bad cafeteria food like soft pretzels, ice pops, and pepperoni Bosco sticks with way better options such as salad, whole grain bread with tomatoes and cheese, broccoli, and my favorite, flavorless apples. The line to get food is one of the best parts. Not only is the wait long, but you get to spend the time squished between people, what more could you want. After you finally get your food, most of lunch has already passed, but who cares about that when you get to chose from a variety of places to eat, including the toilet, the floor where food from the previous lunch can be found, the benches in the commons, and then the actual cafeteria. In the main lunch room, everyone is so welcoming. The freshman sit with the seniors in the back, and the seniors sit with the freshman in the front. Its like grade levels no longer exist. During the ten minutes that you get to spend with your friends, announcements are made loudly over the microphone, making it difficult to hold any conversation. But who would rather talk to their friends than hear about Troy High's State Championship winning football team or the new clubs that are definitely not started for the sole reason of having something to put on college applications. However, that is besides the point. Troy High's Cafeteria is what makes school tolerable. Just being able to experience it is a gift that everyone should cherish. I would 10/10 recommend.

 When I first started my BBC book, I had no idea what it was about. I didn't even read the quick summary on it that we were supposed to. I picked Middlesex to read only because my friends in the class put it as their first choice. I had no idea what I was getting into when I opened the book and started reading for the first time. I guess I couldn't expect much cause I didn't even have the slightest notion of what it was about. I don't think I've ever read a novel with the level of detail and plot that Middlesex has. I'm still not convinced that the book is not based on a true story, and for that I applaud the author. The World Around Us

People are molded by the world around them–The people who raise them, their friends, the town they live in. All of these factors influence who they become, how they act, and how they see the world. For example a child raised in poverty is going to see the world differently then one raised in wealth. And someone raised with a loving family will not be the same as someone raised in a broken home. These are just a few of the many factors that can cause a change from one person to the next. In the book, The Nickel Boys, Elwood, the main character, was said to “talk like a white college boy” unlike the rest of the African Americans at the academy. Elwood was raised to strive for a good education, he went to school, and enjoyed learning. Whereas the other boys weren’t.     Binary opposition is defined as a pair of related terms or concepts that are opposite in meaning. In literature, authors use binary opposites to explore the differences between groups, and often the boundaries between them. Binary opposition creates conflict because there are some people who don't fit into either group and fall into what is called the “grey area”. Authors such as J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter series, and Anthony Doerr In All the Light We Cannot See, use binary opposition to show that dividing individuals into groups and categorizing them within society can cause problems.
