Messages To The Dead

The podcast I listened to was One Last Thing Before I Go. In the beginning it talks about how during COVID, patients could not see their family while in the hospital so they would make video recordings of things they would say to them. Also, nurses would take notes on the patients who were in critical condition because the family members couldn't visit them and the nurses wanted the family member to know that the patients were seen as people and not just patients and also so family members would know that their loved ones were being cared for in their final days. This reminded me of a Greys Anatomy Episode where a patient made video recordings to send to their family members just in case they didn't make it out of surgery. This was a great idea because family members could have one last thing to hold onto from their loved one who didn't make it. The majority of the podcast was dedicated to the "Wind Phone" which was created by a guy who wanted to speak to his family member who died in the Tsunami in Japan. He bought a telephone booth and put it in his garden. This attracted thousands of people and many came to talk to their loved ones. The podcast has recordings of the conversations people have with their dead loved ones in the booth. Most of the conversations are updates on life and basic conversations. Like how are you? and What have you been up to? The telephone gives people another chance to talk to their dead family members. I found it interesting that more men visited the booth than women. The "Wind Phone" gives men the opportunity to finally express their emotions that they have been bottling up. I've heard of people writing letters to their dead loved ones to get their final thoughts out, but I had never heard of  anything like the Wind phone. I can't see myself going to the booth and talking to dead family members because its just not something I would do. When someone dies I'm definitely sad, but I believe wherever they are, they're living a better life so I don't see the need for myself to talk to them again. However, I can see how it would be beneficial for some people to have a conversation with their loved one again and get their final thoughts out and what they wish they would of said before they died.
